Counting on activities: Here, we use Masfe Wall Chart- Learn to Count for example:
In the above illustration, children will be able to see the increasing object when each number is added. They will learn the term and the concept of “addition”. Eg:
Counting on from small number to big number:
1 + 1 = 2
1 + 2 = 3
1 + 3 = 4
4 + 5 = 9
9 + 1 = 10
From here, they will soon count backwards which an early step to learning subtraction is.
With this, children learn to count all things around him. How can parents reinforce and help them relate in daily life?
You can ask questions like:
- How many cars are parked by the road side?
- How many apples did mom buy at the supermarket?
As they grow, they will also learn geometry, measurement, statistic and graph. It's easy to forget that counting is a key concept in mathematic with its many stages. There's certainly a lot more to it than one, two and three!
Tips: Parent engagement is where you can help your child to relate what they have learnt and put it into practise little by little.
